Speech Therapy for Parkinson’s: What to Expect from SPEAK OUT!®

This is something I hear often from both individuals with Parkinson’s and their partners.

“My voice just doesn’t carry anymore.”
“I feel like I’m speaking, but no one hears me.”
or
“I have to keep asking them to repeat themselves.”

Changes in voice and speech are common with Parkinson’s, but they can be frustrating in everyday conversations.

Many people notice their voice becoming softer, less clear, or more effortful over time.

SPEAK OUT!® is a structured speech therapy program designed specifically for individuals with Parkinson’s. It focuses on speaking with intent, which helps support clearer and more consistent communication.

In sessions, we work on:

  • Increasing vocal loudness

  • Improving clarity

  • Supporting more natural, confident communication

The program is structured, but also flexible. It is adjusted based on what matters most in daily life.

One of the main goals is carryover, so it is not just about doing well in therapy, but noticing a difference in real conversations.

Sometimes that looks like:

  • Being heard more easily across the room

  • Not needing to repeat yourself as often

  • Feeling more confident speaking in conversations

If you or a family member have noticed changes in voice or communication, it can be helpful to start sooner rather than later.
